Hello! My name is Alexis Gade and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I strive to offer clients a safe and compassionate environment to explore barriers they might be facing that are preventing them from living to their full potential as well as identifying strengths to achieve their goals. I am passionate about working with individuals struggling with anxiety and OCD. Another area of focus of mine is helping women and mothers during challenging life transitions, including the prenatal and postpartum periods. I am a believer that all changes, even positive changes, can be challenging and stressful. I’m here to walk you through these changes in order to be more present in your daily life. Most of my clients would identify as one or some of the following: people pleaser, high-achiever, over-functioner, perfectionist, over-thinker. If this describes you, I’d love to help. My approach focuses on tuning into emotions and your past experiences to help you 1) understand yourself on a newer and deeper level 2) detangle and clarify what you are feeling, 3) change the way you respond to difficult circumstances, 4) resolve long standing issues that sabotage your life & relationships, 5) prioritize yourself and your needs. As a Certified Sex Therapist, I have specialized expertise in treating a number of sexual concerns. I ask the important questions you may not think to ask yourself, & focus deeply on what you are saying & not saying. I aspire to be tough when you need it, & gentle when the work is hard enough. Our work in therapy will be dynamic and collaborative; you will be lit up with new ways of understanding yourself. And I'll be in your corner the entire time. I believe change happens when we expand our self-awareness and understand ourselves deeply. But to do this, we first need to be understood. I seek to build a trusting, safe, confidential space where you can be yourself, speak freely, and feel fully seen. More information and resources on my website: www.bobbywalkertherapy.com

I take into account the whole person (mind/body/spirit) and provide a non-judgmental approach to therapy. Together we will focus on finding and resolving the factors that are at the root of your mental health symptoms. These symptoms are often natural responses/adaptations to stressful life circumstances and traumatic experiences. From this perspective, these psychological parts become imbalanced over time and can get stuck in the past. Once they are properly integrated in the here-and-now, we can begin to live a life that is true to our purpose and in alignment with our highest selves. I use a unique blend of talk therapy and other more eclectic therapeutic techniques that can allow people to fully feel, understand, and integrate parts of themselves. Clients who have spent years in talk therapy have told me that they have received more benefit in just a few of our sessions than they had previously. (Licensed in Iowa and Wisconsin) Reach out and request a free consultation! I'd love to know a bit about what you're struggling with and we can see if we might be a good fit for therapy. If not, I will attempt to help you find someone who is. Accepting Wellmark/BCBS in the near future! Contact me to be put on my insurance waitlist :)

The narratives of life can leave us feeling rough and jagged. Sometimes we need someone to come alongside us as we navigate the rapids, and discover the beauty and new form waiting in still waters. I consider being a part of this process to be a privilege and an honor. I serve children birth-adolescence, families, and adults. I am able to address a variety of needs, with a specialization in serving those who have experienced trauma. I provide an encouraging, supportive, attuned, relationship-focused environment, that is mindful of culture, and, if desired, incorporates faith into the work. I have trained in Theraplay, EMDR, TF-CBT, and am currently working to complete a certificate program in Trauma-Informed, Child-Parent Psychotherapy. I am also an Art Therapist. Art making is not required, but the option is always there, and can take people places words fall short. With children, especially very young children, I believe parent involvement is essential. Parents are seen as partners in supporting the growth and emotional well being of their child. Adult clients are worked with collaboratively to establish goals for treatment and support individual investment and ownership in the process.

It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who once said that, "What lies behind us and what lies before us matters little compared to what lies within us". For more than 30 years I have focused on helping children and adults, individually, in couples, in families and groups achieve strength, peace and confidence by improving conflict resolution, communication, stress and anxiety, anger management skills, child and adolescent behavioral problems, and parenting skills as well as improved functioning and decreased emotional distress related to depression, self-esteem, post-traumatic stress and bipolar disorders. Through a combination of interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral and motivational approaches I have seen my clients make meaningful and lasting transformations in both emotional and behavioral dimensions. I provide evidence-based, focused, and time-limited treatment with documented results for mental health, behavioral health and substance use issues. In addition to general mental health counseling, I have specialized in the area of domestic violence with both perpetrators and survivors of violence since 1980. Here is how I help: I offer grounded and compassionate therapy that is open, present, and realistic. You will be understood and accepted as you are so we can work toward resolving the problems that stand in your way, whether they are challenges you want to face on your own, or relationship issues you want to resolve with your partner or family. With couples, Meshel Langford is my co-therapist. Having both of us provides balance, perspective, and support (please see our website, linked on this page). I work with couples, families, and individuals, specializing in individual therapy with men, and relationship therapy. I also offer EMDR, a type of therapy which helps the brain reprocess trauma and other distress. I am co-authoring a graduate text for the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Edgewood College. I have witnessed the deepest wounds become places of wisdom and strength, and the belief in love and hope become stronger than anything that opposes them. Both couple and individual therapy can help accomplish that, and can help you discover your life as you want it to be.

Coming to therapy can be a difficult choice. You’re struggling to manage everything life’s thrown at you, and you need some help. We all go through hard times, some worse than others, and the lingering effects of past experiences can make us feel stuck. When we experience trauma, not only are we often left with feelings of anxiety and depression, but it can also change the way our brains perceive the world around us. Let’s work together to find ways to break through those barriers, so you can let go of the things that have been holding you back and make the most out of life. I have specialized training in evidence-based interventions that focus on helping people heal from trauma, stress, and difficult life experiences. I approach therapy from an attachment- and strengths-based lens, meaning I prioritize the client-therapist relationship, while also highlighting what you’re already doing well to help you get where you want to be. Reaching out can be hard, but I pride myself on making clients feel comfortable and confident in their choice to begin therapy. My goals include helping clients not only better understand themselves, but also connect to others in deeper, more meaningful ways. I appreciate that you’re ready to take this next step, and I’m excited to work alongside you.
